What is PMVA?

PMVA stands for Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression. PMVA courses are primarily used in sectors where professionals might face challenging or aggressive behaviour from clients, patients, or the public. These courses teach de-escalation techniques, risk assessment, and safe physical interventions when necessary

Purposes of training include:

  • Recognising early warning signs of aggression
  • Applying non-physical de-escalation techniques
  • Understanding legal and ethical boundaries
  • Learning safe physical interventions if necessary (last resort)
  • Ensuring safety of both staff and service users
